Perry Fletcher is of Maori, Scottish and Rangitane whakapapa and is our Pukenga. He has researched and written many commissioned reports for New Zealand departments and local body authorities. Also for forestry, electric power companies and Maori organisations. His reports have covered relevant historical and environmental backgrounds.

Te Raupo Paa. An old time Maori Settlement at Whangamata Block 3. This is one of four paa sites that was used by several generations over the past 300 years.

After a group of people from Northland visit the wall a Kuia from Waitaha said "We know these people, they are before our time".

Kaimanawa wall

A secret glen surrounded in prehistoric ancient beech trees is the location of an anomaly. Some say it is a pyramid, others say it teleported to its present location, and others have dissolved into tears at their first touch of the wall that emanates an unknown energy.

Used in later times as a burial cave, and the given name is possibly referred to as Tuwharetoa's sleeping place when he was sought by Te Rangita’s war parties to be killed.
Shown on old maps to the north end of Te Kumi Bay. The cave and Ponui Paa are situated above the bluffs called Kohatungawha rising from the lake.
Ponui Paa. Is named after the many campfires seen from afar and is one of the largest pa in the district. This is further distinguished by the long scarp to the north side that ends at a large double ditch/earthwork that may be compared to some coastal pa as at Kauri Point.
Traditionally the stronghold of the Ngati Hotu and Ngati Kurapoto.
Some say that Tuwharetoa a Turiroa Cave is also known as Matanuku and Matarangi.

TE TAPAPATANGA O RAUHOTO
A rock where Rauhoto and her husband Tuwharetoa a Turiroa
swam when their pa was attacked. Tuwharetoa returned to
the beach and was killed. Rauhoto seeing this returned also
and was herself killed. (see Tupapaku)
A different account is given by Grace 59:179-80
